The Mozambican government admitted that it has a shortage of around 12,000 teachers for the 2025 school year, recognizing that some education professionals will have to work overtime to meet the needs.
According to the government spokesperson, on average, around one million new entrants are admitted to the national system for primary and secondary education, and the hiring of new teachers will not make up for the shortfall across the country.
