Police in Mozambique arrest family member of one of the children kidnapped by terrorists

The older brother of two of the seven children who were kidnapped on January 23 after a terrorist attack on the village of Mumu, in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado, was arrested on Tuesday, January 28.

The Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) officers, who neither pursued nor responded to the presence of the terrorists, detained the young man and claimed that he had links to the terrorists. The secretary of Mumu village told UIR agents that the young man was not acting suspiciously and had never been associated with terrorist groups. However, this was not enough for him to be released.
