The Optimistic People for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos) party, which supported Venâncio Mondlane’s presidential candidacy, announced the end of its relationship with the politician, accusing him of “inconsistent and extremist” positions.
In the October 9 elections, Podemos, which has never had a member of parliament since its creation (2019), became the largest opposition party in Mozambique. This took away a status that had belonged to the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) since the first multiparty elections in 1994.
