7,000 people could be without drinking water in north of Mozambique

The low level of water in the Locumué dam that supplies Lichinga, the provincial capital of Niassa, caused by the low and irregular rainfall in the region is creating a reduction in the volume of water in the dam that supplies the city and could leave around 7,000 people without drinking water.

“The reservoir’s maximum capacity is 11.8 metres, at the moment we’re at 6.6 metres,” explained Guilhermina Opinca, a delegate from Águas da Região Norte (AdRN), a private water supply company. Locumué is the dam with the lowest storage levels in Mozambique.
