Mozambican activists are concerned about alleged kidnappings and murders of women in Maputo, mainly associated with transportation by taxi and transportation apps and related to organ trafficking. The crimes are linked to taxi journeys called up via mobile applications. On social media, there are reports of women disappearing and later being found dead or with their organs removed. The Maputo police say that there are no records of this type of crime.
According to social activist Denise Ivone, at least 20 women have reported attempted kidnappings involving app-based cabs in recent weeks, but no cases have been reported to the police authorities.
