Misinformation about cholera leads to the vandalization of 70 schools in northern Mozambique

Around 70 schools have been vandalized due to protests related to misinformation about a cholera outbreak in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, local authorities have announced. According to the head of the education sector, the protesters blame the staff and managers of these schools for the outbreak of the disease in Nampula.

The current cholera outbreak was declared on October 17, 2024, in three regions of the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia. So far, it has claimed 36 lives and infected almost 2,000 people in Nampula.
