More than 40,000 people without electricity due to bad weather in northern Mozambique

A total of 40,245 people are without electricity in Nampula, in northern Mozambique, due to the bad weather in the province, caused by the approach of tropical cyclone Jude, Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) announced.

Power cuts are being recorded in Ilha de Moçambique, and in the districts of Mossuril and Nacala Porto, the latter two of which have been identified as probable entry points for Cyclone Jude. EDM said that it has teams on the ground to inspect the damaged network, to restore the system in the affected areas “as soon as possible”, but warned that the activities are being carried out with some difficulty due to the prevalence of rain and strong winds.
