Mozambique: Cases of rejection and abandonment of children with disabilities are prevalent in Sofala province

Cases of rejection and abandonment of children with disabilities are prevalent in Sofala province, in the central region of Mozambique. Some families end up reintegrating the children back into the family, already under obligation from the courts.

Among the children rejected by their families are newborns who came into the world with congenital malformations or mental insufficiency. Families often claim that they are financially unable to provide the care their disabled child needs.
