The district of Murrupula, in Nampula province, is facing serious challenges in promoting health education campaigns, amid a cholera outbreak that has affected several communities since February. Misinformation about the disease’s origin is hampering the health authorities’ efforts and provoking hostile reactions from the population against the technicians working to raise awareness.
The health authorities and local and international partners are stepping up efforts to clarify the origin of cholera and encourage proper hygiene practices. However, the road is still long and the resistance of the population represents a significant obstacle in the fight against this outbreak.
