The government of Mozambique warns that the country’s current Public Debt is on a strong upward trend and fears that it could jeopardize this year’s State Budget. For this reason, the executive wants to review the country’s Public Debt Strategy for 2026/2029.
In 2024, Mozambique’s Public Debt reached the historic mark of one trillion meticais, an increase of eight percent from the previous year. Finance Minister Carla Louveira explains that the country’s current Strategy 2022-2025 already provides for a review to make its current debt sustainable.
