The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday mourned the death of five children in a road accident on Monday in Manica, central Mozambique, which caused 23 deaths, and called for road safety measures.
“This accident highlights the serious cost of road accidents for children in Mozambique and underlines the importance of all efforts to improve road safety,” reads a note from the UN agency. The accident happened on Monday afternoon along National Road 6, at the administrative post of Cafumpe, in the district of Gondola, Manica province, involving a head-on collision between a semi-collective passenger transport vehicle and a heavy goods vehicle.
