USAID suspension jeopardizes support for bilingual education in Mozambique

The cut in USAID support for education in Mozambique could harm the materialization of the Bilingual Education Expansion Strategy 2020-2029.

At the beginning of March, World Education, a non-governmental organization, announced the closure of the SABER program following the advice of the main donor, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which was suspended in January this year by President Donald Trump. SABER came about as part of the operationalization of the Bilingual Education Expansion Strategy 2020-2029, intending to improve the quality of primary education, provide a successful transition between learning cycles, and effective appropriation of this modality by the target choices.
