Health workers in Mozambique, who have been on strike since April 17, have announced that as of Wednesday (April 30th), they will stop working in hospitals until May 5.
The decision to intensify the strike was taken as a way of putting pressure on the government, to demand the payment of overtime arrears, improved working conditions, and the provision of medicines and food for patients. The health workers’ demands include not only the payment of overtime owed but also better pay, a proper framework for their jobs, as well as guaranteed medicines and food rations for patients.
