The extremist group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 11 members of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique in the country’s northern province of Cabo Delgado. The police do not confirm the deaths and guarantee that they are prepared to fight the insurgency that has been affecting the region since 2017.
According to data recently released by the Center for Strategic Studies in Africa, at least 349 people died in attacks by Islamic extremist groups in Cabo Delgado province last year alone, which represents an increase of 36% over the previous year.
