The lack of information about the causes of albinism, combined with discrimination and misconceptions, has made individuals with the condition targets of violence and stigmatization in several communities in Mozambique.
The situation was addressed by the Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Mateus Saize, during the launch of celebrations for International Albinism Awareness Day, which is observed on 13 June. This year’s theme is “Claiming our Rights: Protecting our Skin, Preserving our Lives”.
