Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM), the company operating in Namanhumbir, in the Montepuez district of Cabo Delgado province, has appealed to tourists in the provincial capital, Pemba, to refrain from buying rubies from illegal sellers.
The company warns that, in addition to paying high prices for inferior quality and illegally mined rubies, there are reports of members of the authorities being involved in extorting money from tourists, threatening them to buy these illegal rubies.
