Mozambique: Kidnappers sentenced to 30 years in prison

The Maputo City Judicial Court sentenced five individuals to between 22 and 30 years in prison for their involvement in crimes of kidnapping, carrying prohibited weapons, and criminal association. The crimes took place in August 2022 and October 2023 and involved the kidnapping and death of Munawar Ahmed Ali and the captivity of Zakiya Ahmed Dassate, respectively.

Edmundo Matsinhe was sentenced to 30 years in prison and to pay 500,000 meticais in compensation. Joana Macuácua must serve 25 years in prison and pay 100,000 meticais, while Jerónimo Bila was sentenced to 27 years and to pay 200,000 meticais. Nelson Tamele will serve 26 years and pay 400,000 meticais, and Cleópatras Dimande was sentenced to 22 years with compensation of 300,000 meticais.
