Road transporters in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, have reported suffering constant extortion by terrorist groups operating on various roads in the province. According to the drivers, these criminal actions have caused incalculable damage, affecting both the transport sector and the economic and social life of the region.
Reports indicate that insurgents are blocking strategic roads, forcing truck drivers and cargo vehicle drivers to pay large sums of money to continue their journey. In many cases, drivers who refuse are threatened, assaulted, or have their property looted.
