A tragedy shocked residents of the Mecula district in Niassa province, northern region of Mozambique, after a baby lost his life when attacked by a monkey. The incident occurred when the animal snatched the child from his mother’s arms and ran away with him.
According to witness reports, the mother desperately tried to stop the attack, but was unable to prevent the animal from running away with the baby. Minutes later, the child was found dead. Local authorities confirmed the case and warned the population about the increased presence of monkeys in inhabited areas, a consequence of food shortages in the forests and the animals’ proximity to communities.
