Official data indicate that Mozambique has the highest suicide rate on the African continent, with 17.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is a situation that needs to be reversed with everyone’s involvement, stresses the Speaker of the Mozambican Parliament, Margarida Talapa.
Depression is among the leading causes of suicide in Mozambique, a country where, according to the National Survey on the Prevalence of Risk Factors for Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (INCRONICA 2024), one in 20 adults has attempted suicide at least once.
