Mozambique: 270 deaths from malaria in the first five months of 2025

At least 270 people died of malaria between January and May this year in Mozambique, which recorded more than six million cases during that period, the authorities said.

Nampula Province, in the north of Mozambique, recorded 53 deaths up to May, followed by Sofala and Tete, with 20 each, and Zambézia, with 15 malaria-related deaths. Government data indicates that malaria-related deaths in the first five months of this year increased by 67% compared to the same period last year, and the total number of cases also increased by 19% compared to 2024.
