Mozambique: 525 per cent increase in serious violations against children in conflicts

Mozambique was the country with the second-highest percentage increase (525%) in serious violations against children in armed conflicts in 2024, only behind Lebanon, according to a new report published on Thursday by the UN.

The data is contained in the “UN Secretary-General’s Report on Children and Armed Conflict 2024”, which indicates that the biggest percentage increases were seen in Lebanon (545%), Mozambique (525%), Haiti (490%), Ethiopia (235%), and Ukraine (105%). UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a series of recommendations for Mozambique and called on the government to “expand training to all security forces, including the Local Force and the Rapid Intervention Unit, and to clarify their status and establish accountability measures”.
