In recent years, there has been a “growing wave” of virtual scams perpetrated by previously unknown individuals, most notably messages with fraudulent content about prizes and money transfers.
Data recently released by the National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM) indicates that more than 500,000 cases of fraud were recorded in 2024, with more than 100 reports of various cases this year. Mozambique has around 21 million active subscribers to telecommunications services, and there is no specific law defining who can and cannot send fraudulent or abusive messages.
