The joint force fighting extremism in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, has recovered the Catupa base, recently taken by the rebels, a local government source announced yesterday (June 26).
Since 2017, the Armed Defence Forces of Mozambique and their counterparts in Rwanda have been fighting the insurgency in Cabo Delgado, with the help of the Local Force, made up mainly of former guerrillas from the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), which led the war against the Portuguese colonial regime (1964-1974) and who have voluntarily taken up arms again to fight the rebel groups.
