Venâncio Mondlane returns to Mozambique and appoints himself “president elected by the people”

Just over two months after leaving the country, fearing for his life, the second most voted candidate in the Presidential Elections returned to Mozambique on Thursday (09) and, as he left Maputo International Airport, took the oath as President of the Republic.

After that, the police fired live ammunition and tear gas to prevent supporters of Venâncio Mondlane from reaching the airport to greet him following his return from self-imposed exile.
