Cyclone Dikeledi leaves five dead and more than 36,000 people affected in Mozambique

A cyclone once again hit the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, Dikeledi, which has left 5 dead and around 36,000 people affected. The president of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) confirmed on Wednesday that there was “one death in Mossuril, three in Angoche, and one in Nampula and that ‘so far, there is confirmation that 35,174 people have been affected, which corresponds to 8,225 families’.

The worst affected areas were the district of Mossuril, the island of Mozambique, and the city of Nacala Porto. So far, the INGD has recorded 6,475 houses partially destroyed, 2,750 destroyed, three health facilities destroyed, 42 schools and 95 classrooms affected.
