Soon, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) will be focusing on building resilient structures in cyclone-prone areas, using local materials, aiming to reduce the damage caused by extreme events.
The INGD president explained that this approach can be seen as a form of long-term investment which, as well as reducing risks, increases the quality of life of communities and improves their ability to recover. She said that local material, when chosen and applied specifically, has greater structural robustness, which can therefore cause less impact in terms of damage to houses.
