The northern Mozambique province of Cabo Delgado was hit by tropical cyclone Chido in December 2024, destroying homes, hospitals, and schools. According to UNICEF, about 73,861 pupils were affected putting in danger the start of the 2025 school year, which will be on February 4.
UNICEF has been providing essential materials to help repair the damaged classrooms. Cabo Delgado is now one step closer to offering its students a safe and dignified start to the school year with the resilient reconstruction of the affected schools. “These materials will be used to repair the roofs of the schools, which were destroyed, allowing students to return to school in safe and suitable conditions,” said Pedro Gil Njope, Director of Education in Chiúre District, one of the districts affected by Chido.
