According to an estimate by the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), almost a thousand Mozambican companies have been affected by the post-election demonstrations since October, which have impacted the economy by more than 480 million euros and created 17,000 unemployed people.
According to the CTA, the trade sector “was the most affected” and the overall impact is equivalent to 2.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which “negatively affected the 2024 economic growth projections”, which now “stand at 3.3%, well below the 5.5% of the initial forecast”.
