Five children (ages from 4 to 15 years) from the same family died in the early hours of Wednesday morning after inhaling carbon monoxide produced by an electricity generator in the city of Beira, Sofala province, central Mozambique, an official source said.
Speaking to journalists, Domingos Djambo, the father of three child victims – the other two children were his nieces – and one of the survivors of the tragedy, explained that it all happened when the children took the generator inside the house, fearing that it would be stolen. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, highly toxic, and dangerous gas that prevents the blood from carrying oxygen when inhaled.
