The World Health Organization (WHO) needs 20.7 million dollars for a humanitarian response to 434,000 people in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, which has been ravaged by armed attacks since 2017. According to the WHO Health Cluster, 16.7 million dollars will be used to help victims of terrorism, 2.6 million dollars for natural disasters, and the rest for public health emergencies in the province.
Since October 2017, gas-rich Cabo Delgado has been facing an armed conflict, which has caused thousands of deaths and a humanitarian crisis, with more than a million people displaced. In 2024 alone, at least 349 people died in attacks by Islamic extremist groups in Cabo Delgado, an increase of 36% from the previous year.
