TotalEnergies supports Mozambique’s human rights abuses investigation

Energy giant TotalEnergies has expressed its support for the commencement of official investigations by Mozambican authorities into allegations of human rights abuses by the country’s Defence and Security Forces in the Afungi Peninsula, Cabo Delgado province. These allegations, which surfaced in media reports in 2024, pertain to incidents that are said to have taken place in the summer of 2021.

The Attorney General of Mozambique announced on March 4, 2025, that a criminal investigation into the allegations is now underway. TotalEnergies has pledged full cooperation with the authorities throughout this process. Furthermore, TotalEnergies has sought the involvement of the Mozambican Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) to independently investigate the allegations. The CNDH confirmed on March 25, 2025, that it would review all pertinent information to ensure a thorough and just determination of the facts, as well as the protection of the rights of all parties involved.
