Mozambique has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world, with around 12 percent of the adult population living with the disease. Sex workers are the most affected, with around 30 percent of infections.
According to data from the Biological-Behavioral Survey carried out between 2019 and 2020 with female sex workers, HIV prevalence is highest in the city and province of Maputo, followed by the cities of Beira, Tete, Quelimane, and Nampula.
