The Mozambican government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) intend to negotiate a new financial agreement. An IMF statement quoted by Rádio Moçambique (RM) said that an IMF team, led by Pablo Lopez Murphy, visited Maputo from February 19 to March 4 “to discuss the implementation of policies under the ECF agreement”.
According to the IMF portal, the ECF is the Extended Credit Facility, which is designed to provide medium-term financial assistance to low-income countries with protracted balance of payments problems. According to RM, after Lopez Murphy’s departure, “discussions related to the review of the program continued virtually over the following weeks.”
