According to the head of the Health Department at the Provincial Health Directorate (DPS) in the province of Nampula, Jaime Miguel, some medicines, such as ready-to-use therapeutic food (also called Plumpy-nut) – a supplement from the nutrition program – are being detoured from the National Health System network and entering a clandestine network.
Jaime Miguel said that they are aware of cases in which health professionals have acted in bad faith, taking these supplements to sell in the black market. The supplement ends up being marketed to people who don’t need it, which can have long-term consequences for children, and other people who need it.
