A statement from the Presidency of the Republic says Mozambique was honored in Geneva, Switzerland, as a Champion in the Fight Against Malaria.
The award was presented to the Minister of Health, Ussene Isse, as part of the seventy-eighth World Health Assembly. The Minister said at the time that the award recognized the government’s efforts to prevent and combat malaria. Efforts include reducing the mortality rate, intensifying spraying campaigns, mass distribution of mosquito nets, improving diagnostic and treatment services, as well as strengthening epidemiological surveillance.
