The World Health Organization (WHO) brought together more than 15 countries and 20 regional health agencies in a global simulation exercise on a new pandemic. Mozambique was the only Portuguese-speaking nation on the list, which also included Canada, Qatar, Costa Rica, Denmark, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia and Ukraine, among others.
The Polaris Exercise initiative tested the WHO Global Health Emergency Corps to strengthen the capacity of emergency personnel, coordinate the deployment of teams and experts and improve collaboration between countries. The exercise simulated an outbreak of a fictitious virus spreading around the world.
